About

My name is Rose, this is my blog on sustainable living in the UK. I started this blog in March 2016 but in some ways I have always been conscious of living a green lifestyle.

I was brought up on a farm in Leicestershire where every year my mother would make wine from homegrown berries, as children we would be sent up the apple tree to pick the best fruit from the top branches and nursing sick chickens in the kitchen was just a part of daily life. From riding horses through the fields, watching bats, badgers, pheasants and foxes come into the garden to cuddling newborn calves. It truly can be an idyllic lifestyle and was certainly a childhood I will cherish forever.

However, after university I made the choice to live in the ‘normal’ world. I moved into a beautiful little end-terrace house in a small Leicestershire village with my fiancé and our 2 cats. Our garden is smaller than a chicken enclosure would be on the farm, there’s no room to plant fruit bushes and, as is always the way, our busy lives demand too much of our time for truly self-sufficient living.

But, not deterred by this, I have started this blog to search for ways to be ethical and sustainable while still living our busy lives. As modern life takes over, we are never unplugged and our work/life balance is sliding in the wrong direction, we need to take a moment to step back and re-evaluate what is important. And, for me, that is living a more conscious, sustainable and ethical lifestyle. With just a bit of mindfulness we can all make a step towards saving our planet, our souls and our lives.
